GO GREEN was The Student Coordinating Team’s identity project for the S.Y. 2008-2009. It consisted of various programs strategically placed in the academic calendar and aimed to promote environmental awareness and stewardship to paulinians of the HS department.
1. ALARMING FACTS: Every Wednesday of the first/second quarter, HS students were able to hear alarming facts over the PA system about our environment such as the tons and tons of garbage we produce a year, the number of animals who die because of loss of habitat, etc. This hopefully raised their consciousness on their actions that affect the environment.
2. GOING ZERO: SCT ‘08-‘09 also pushed for a campaign against the use of styrofoam containers and plastic straws. Posters all over the HS buildings were posted discouraging everyone to stop the use of such materials that are harmful to our environment. Also, efforts of banning the concessionaires’ use of these materials were started through a letter to the Executive Officer for Student services.
3. TRASH SEGREGATION IMPROVEMENT: trash bins were re-labeled and relocated so as to encourage everyone to throw their trash to the proper receptacle. Also, THINK BEFORE YOU THROW and CLEAN AS YOU GO campaigns were pushed for.
4. MANILA BAY CLEAN-UP: As a culminating event for this project, a venue for concrete environmental action was opened by the SCT to student and faculty volunteers. See http://gogrowglow.tumblr.com/post/390596808/manila-bay-clean-up-was-a-project-of-sct-08-09 for more details.
